Stone Towers, Cairo, Egypt
Designed with Zaha Hadid Architects, the Stone Towers project is located in Cairo, Egypt and provides 525,00 sq m of a office and retail space, as well as a five-star business hotel, serviced apartments and landscaped gardens. The north and south facades of each tower will be covered with recesses and protrusions that emphasise the effects of the intense sunlight of the region, enhancing light and shadow on the external surfaces. The design challenge was to balance the necessary construction requirement for repetitive elements whilst avoiding an uncompromising repetition of static building masses.
Newtecnic was responsible for the facade engineering design from concept to detail design stages, including the development and optimisation of the facade geometry, the external envelope construction systes, design of facade mock-ups, analysis of the environmental performance and resulting design of external solar shading systems.
