HOW DID NEWTECNIC BUILD THE FIRM?
Newtecnic started as a small design firm of engineers and architects. We found that our clients who were architects who wanted to work closely with engineering-based designers. As a development of our facade design and engineering work, we decided to work as engineers and architects across entire projects. The two mindsets of engineering and architecture can coexist very happily and can be brought together successfully when a balance of an engineering approach - that of assemblies - and an architectural approach - that of spaces - is required for a large-scale project.
HOW DO THESE TWO DIFFERENT WAYS OF VIEWING THE WORLD COME TOGETHER?
Through prototyping, modularisation and getting the building design to do a ‘job’; to achieve its purpose. The resulting visual interest in our designs stems from that approach.
HOW BIG ARE NEWTECNIC DESIGN TEAMS?
The work at Newtecnic is undertaken by small specialised teams of architects and engineers, with teams ranging between 2 and 10 people.
WHY DOES NEWTECNIC DO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WORK?
R+D work is preparation, in order to understand the project as well as to generate useful research outputs such as new facade systems. The R&D and prototyping is a key component in this new way of designing buildings.

We use agile management as deployed in the software design industry for rapid iterations and rapid prototyping; we are accredited to ISO 9001 and related ISO standards.
WHICH TOOLS DO NEWTECNIC USE?
We make use of the regular range of digital design and analysis tools, starting each task with hand sketches and hand calculations using first principles.
