This stadium is formed from a thick shell forming a partially covered roof and a second inverted shell forming the seating areas beneath. The effect is of a double carapace, protecting the stadium occupants from the effects of the sun in summer and the harsh temperatures in winter. The roof shell has additional fabric-based awnings which are deployed to fully cover the stadium in winter from snow and high winds. The roof areas accommodate the service spaces for the building, including electrical lighting and mechanical ventilation equipment.
