This light industrial building is formed as a set of linked workshop pods which can be moved by mobile crane to suit changing relationships between the workshops. The current configuration is for a boat-building manufacturer working on a large-scale vessel. Each pod can be supported on columns without the need for additional framing so that the pods can access the vessel from the sides, the top or through the floor deck to gain access from above. A set of prefabricated staircases allows access from pod to the vessel under construction, in addition to the hatches which can raise or lower components and assemblies directly to where they will be installed. This approach avoids the need for an overhead crane and gantry that would have been needed to move items from an enclosure adjacent to the vessel under construction.
