The Design District comprises 13,000m2 of workspace for creative industries and 6,000m2 of education facilities and retail space, intended for start-ups and individual makers, to household-names in the creative and technology industries. The buildings comprise a mix of structural and architectural finishes. The mix of external facades includes Terrazzo, Corten steel, polycarbonate and ETFE, in-situ concrete and corrugated aluminium cladding. Design District will provide a new creative destination for London on Greenwich Peninsula, a permanent new home for ideas, open to everyone.

The Design District is designed to create a permanent location for creative enterprise in London, and to give it a varied, permeable heart, delivering high-quality deisgn at low costs to ensure tenant rents can be kept affordable. Key themes of the project are low-cost, diverse, productive, human-scale, open and immersive. The market building is placed at the plot’s heart, which also sits on the axis that runs through the site connecting the nearby tube station with local housing, ensuring the area blends seamlessly with its surroundings and will become an integral part of the Greenwich Peninsula daily life.
