Orbital Park — Learning Through Exploration

Orbital Park is a space-themed visitor attraction in Nevada, conceived as a destination for STEM education, scientific discovery and immersive entertainment. Set within an expansive desert landscape, the project brings together interactive exhibitions, simulation environments, educational facilities and public attractions within an architectural setting inspired by the technologies and possibilities of space exploration.

The project establishes a distinctive presence through a large elevated, disc-like form that appears to hover above the desert. Its sweeping metallic roof extends over a complex arrangement of structural supports, public spaces and visitor activities, creating a recognisable destination within the open landscape. The contrast between the horizontal architecture, surrounding mountains and expansive sky reinforces the sense of arrival at a place dedicated to exploration beyond familiar environments.

The approach forms part of the visitor experience. The architecture becomes visible across the desert before its scale and organisation are gradually revealed. As visitors move towards the attraction, the elevated roof, exposed structural framework and illuminated spaces beneath establish a transition from the surrounding landscape into an environment shaped by scientific imagination and technological possibility.

At the heart of Orbital Park is a shared arrival and orientation space connecting a series of themed destinations. Exhibition environments, interactive installations, educational workshops and immersive attractions are organised within a coherent framework that allows visitors to explore according to their interests. The arrangement provides opportunities for both directed learning and independent discovery.

The project is founded on the idea that scientific understanding develops through participation. Visitors encounter the principles of space exploration through experimentation, simulation and direct engagement with technological concepts. Experiences range from large-scale immersive environments to smaller installations that make complex scientific ideas accessible through observation and interaction.

The architecture supports this approach through changing relationships between scale, light, structure and movement. The expansive roof creates a sheltered environment beneath which different visitor activities can develop, while illuminated spaces and visible structural elements contribute to the atmosphere of a technologically advanced destination.

Nevada's desert climate also informs the architectural strategy. The elevated roof provides opportunities for extensive shade, while protected circulation and gathering areas moderate the transition between the exposed landscape and enclosed attractions. Structure, enclosure and environmental performance are considered together as part of the development of the building's distinctive form.

Flexibility is central to the project. Individual attractions, interactive installations and educational environments can evolve as scientific knowledge, technologies and methods of communication advance. The larger architectural framework provides continuity while allowing new experiences and programmes to be introduced over time.

Orbital Park brings education and entertainment together through a shared commitment to exploration. Scientific learning is integrated with immersive storytelling, collective activities and encounters with technologies that extend human understanding beyond Earth.

The result is a destination that combines the drama of space exploration with the opportunities of active learning. Its elevated architectural form establishes a memorable presence within the Nevada desert, while the experiences beneath it encourage visitors to investigate, question and imagine the possibilities of the future.
