Orbital Park — Learning Through Exploration
This project is a space-themed visitor attraction in both Orlando and Nevada designed to combine STEM education, hands-on exploration and immersive entertainment within a single integrated experience. The project seeks to inspire curiosity about science, technology, engineering and space exploration by transforming learning into an active and engaging journey rather than a passive process of observation.
The attraction is organised around a central arrival space from which a series of themed destinations radiate outward. This arrangement creates a clear and intuitive visitor experience while allowing a diverse range of educational, recreational and exhibition environments to operate within a coherent overall framework.
A key advantage of this organisational strategy is flexibility. New exhibits, educational programmes and interactive experiences can be introduced within individual zones without disrupting the overall structure of the attraction. The architecture therefore provides a framework capable of evolving alongside changing technologies, scientific discoveries and visitor expectations.
At the heart of the project is the belief that learning is most effective when it is participatory. Visitors are encouraged to engage directly with scientific ideas through experimentation, simulation and exploration. Rather than presenting information as a sequence of static displays, the attraction creates opportunities for discovery, allowing visitors to become active participants in the learning experience.
The architecture supports this ambition through a carefully choreographed sequence of spaces that balance moments of excitement, immersion and reflection. Large-scale experiential environments are combined with smaller interactive exhibits, educational workshops and collaborative learning spaces. The result is an experience that engages both emotional imagination and intellectual curiosity.
Narrative plays an important role throughout the project. Visitors move through a sequence of environments exploring themes of scientific discovery, technological innovation and the future of human exploration. Space, light, movement and visual connection are used to create a sense of progression, encouraging visitors to explore, question and discover.
The project seeks to bridge the traditional divide between entertainment and education. While many attractions prioritise spectacle and immediate stimulation, and many educational environments struggle to sustain engagement, this project combines the strengths of both approaches. Learning and enjoyment are treated as complementary rather than competing objectives.
The central hub functions as both an orientation space and a social gathering place, connecting the various elements of the attraction while encouraging interaction between visitors. From this shared centre, multiple routes and experiences can be explored, allowing visitors to shape their own journey according to their interests and level of engagement.
Flexibility is embedded throughout the design. Exhibitions, learning environments and interactive installations can be updated, expanded or reconfigured as technologies and educational priorities evolve. This adaptability ensures that the attraction remains relevant while continuing to engage new generations of visitors.
Interactive media, simulation environments and hands-on exhibits are integrated throughout the project as tools for communication and participation. These technologies are employed to make complex scientific ideas accessible, encouraging visitors to engage actively with concepts that might otherwise remain abstract or remote.
This project proposes a new model for educational attractions—one that places curiosity, participation and discovery at the centre of the visitor experience. By combining flexible planning, immersive storytelling and active learning, it creates an environment where entertainment and education reinforce one another.
The result is a destination that celebrates human ingenuity, scientific discovery and exploration while inspiring future generations to engage with the challenges and possibilities of the future.
